when counselling young people it can be useful to take account of constructivist theory which helps explain how we set about trying to make sense of the world in which we live (Fransellaและคณะ 2007). In trying to make sense of the world in with they live, young people use their personal experiences to conceptualize and develop ideas or beliefs about their world. In other words, they from constructs which encapsulate their concepts about the world in which they live. These constructs or personal interpretations of the world will not be fixed, but will be revised and replaced as new information becomes available to the individual concerned. Thus, personal construct theory is based upon the philosophical assumption that all of our present interpretations of the universe are subject to revision or replacement (Kelly, 1955). Each of us behaves like a scientist, formulating hypotheses, using our experiences to test them out, and if necessary revising them (Winter, 2003). Typically this is how young people behave.
