Data collection
The researchers constructed a questionnaire divided into three parts. The first part included characteristic data about the study participants, such as their age, gender, education, occupation, fathers’ education and occupation, family type, size, house ownership and family social, and child health problems as these problems might affect weaning practices. The second part addressed nursing and weaning practices, such as duration of breastfeeding, age at weaning, reasons for weaning, approach used in weaning, practices and beliefs about traditional weaning methods, problems related to weaning, and feeding patterns before and after weaning. The third part focused on information related to mother’s knowledge about weaning practices. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews with 300 mothers. The researchers collected the data themselves between May 2009–August 2009 after conducting a pilot study with 20 mothers
