Following the introduction, the literature review first summarizes the current situation of
English language education in Sweden.อIn the second part, the factors affecting Sweden’s English language education are
discussed: (1) linguistic affinities between Swedish and English, (2) cultural compatibilities
between Swedish and British cultures and recent global cultural assimilation by
Anglo-American culture, (3) language policy that is politically and economically
necessitated by Sweden’s EU membership and (4) the EU recommended language teaching
approach, “CLIL” (Content and Language Integrated Learning).
