It is transmitted to humans through the bite of mosquitoes of the
Stegomyia genus, mainly Stegomyia (Aedes) aegypti, producing a wide
spectrum of clinical manifestations that range from a mild self-limited
febrile disease known as Dengue Fever (DF) to a hemorrhagic life threatening
syndrome denominated Severe Dengue (SD). Although
the most dangerous clinical manifestations appear only after the drop
in viremia that signals the end of the febrile period, peak virus titers
have been shown to correlate with disease severity
