FAME were analyzed by gas chromatography using a Hewlett-Packard 5880 chromatograph with a splitless
injector at 2501C and flame ionization detector at 2601C. The column used was an Omegawax 320
(30m0.32mm ID, 0.25mm film) capillary column (Supelco). Helium (25 cm/s) was used as a carrier gas.
The initial oven temperature was 1501C and was programmed to increase by 2.51C/min to 1751C, and
then by 1.01C/min to 2251C. FAME were identified by their retention times with respect to pure ALA. EPA
and DHA standards.
