Increase in virulence may occur in the future in all hopgrowing countries where resistant varieties have been recently introduced. In practice, some infection of hop varieties without wilt-resistance by isolates with low virulence for this host probably occurs wherever the crop is grown. In such cases, only mild symptoms will be seen. The occurrence of isolates with high virulence to hops has led to restrictions on the movement
of hop plants and propagating material.
