In the midst of these two giant economies, ASEAN adopted AEC Blueprint in November 2008 which outlines the measures to be taken and the schedule for implementation. The entry into force of the ASEAN Charter and the adaptation of an integrated Roadmap for an ASEAN Community 2015, have provided further impetus towards the achievement. “A combined GDP of 2 trillion dollars is true only if the region is integrated, but it does not mean anything if the region is not together. If ASEAN continues to stay divided economically, investors will not come because they will look for big market.” said Dr. Severino. The economic integration is therefore necessary for ASEAN to cope effectively with the unprecedented opportunities as well as the unprecedented challenges.
