3. DEFINITIONS
CPE: Collective Protective Equipment: we call CPE all technical means to protect several people from hazards at work, such as:
- a protective barrier defining a dangerous area;
- a fan system collecting gaseous emissions at a workstation;
- a soundproofing partition.
We distinguish between:
Active CPE: whose functionality depends on an energy source and
Passive CPE: that does not depend on a source of energy (barrier).
Note: CPEs associated with a machine or equipment are not covered by this Directive. They are covered by the Directive on the safety of equipment and facilities listed in Chapter 2.
PPE: Personal Protective Equipment: Equipment designed to be worn or held by a person to protect her from one or more hazards likely to endanger her health and/or safety.
