Columbia is an Update (a.k.a. Service Pack) for BES12.
During a customer upgrade or migration to Columbia release, business rules for license Upgrade and Update rights must be adhered to.
License Upgrade & Update rights for BES12 are included in the PPT attached to this JIRA item.
'License Upgrade' rights are as follows:
- BES10 Subscription CALs include the right to use Columbia (not including where subscription has expired)
- BES10 Perpetual CALs covered under Software Assurance include the right to use Columbia (not including where Software Assurance subscription has expired)
- BES10 Perpetual CALs not covered under Software Assurance do not include the right to use Columbia.
'License Update' rights are as follows:
- BES12 Subscription CALs include the right to use Columbia (not including where subscription has expired)
- BES12 v12.0 Perpetual CALs covered under Software Assurance include the right to use Columbia (not including where Software Assurance subscription has expired)
- BES12 v12.0 Perpetual CALs not covered under Software Assurance do not include the right to use Columbia.
As a part of the upgrade / migration process to Columbia:
- Customer licensing rights / implications for Columbia must be clear to the admin prior to beginning execution of the upgrade / migration.
- License Upgrade / Update requirements must be included in pre-installation tools / documentation.
- Minimum or zero customer intervention should be required to migrate licenses where licenses already include Columbia Upgrade / Update rights.
Customers should be directed to the appropriate online tools / resources that will enable them to purchase Upgrade / Update license rights if required.
Customers may only migrate the # of users for which there are license rights to use Columbia software.
At no time may end users be impacted due to licensing rights during the migration. The process must be completely transparent to end users.
Customer scenarios for migrating to Columbia include any combination of:
- Subscription licenses
- Perpetual licenses covered under Software Assurance
- Perpetual licenses not covered under Software Assurance
