pressures have been reported by [16,50,40]. Woerlee [50] proposed
a function to evaluate the cost of a packed column that relates the
diameter, and the column height.
In this work the fractionation of palm fatty acid distillates
in countercurrent columns using supercritical carbon dioxide as
the solvent has been investigated. The multi-component mixture
of fatty acids has been reduced to a quasi-binary system
consisting of the key compounds palmitic and (oleic + linoleic) in
order to simplify the separation analysis. This study has been
centered on the analysis of phase equilibrium, hydrodynamics,
separation technique, process optimization, and mass transfer
performance of countercurrent columns operating at high pressures.
