The soils in the area are reddish in colour, freely draining
and of medium to heavy texture (Lundgren, 1971), described
also as ferrasol and the level of readily available chemical
nutrients in the soil is high with exception of phosphorus, which
is markedly deficient. Soil pH varies between 5.8 and 6.7.
According to Yeshanew et al. (2003), samples taken from
Munesa indicated that the sampled soils there are to be
categorized as Nitisol, but soil types in the whole of Munesa
may vary considerably.
