We proposed an optimized octree motion representation method.
The proposed technique can reduce the storage space and
transmission bandwidth by storing the motion vectors at some
internal nodes and leaf nodes in contrast to the original method
where motion vectors are stored only in leaf nodes. Some leaf
nodes can inherit their parents’ motion vectors. This new
approach is easy to implement on top of original octree-based
algorithm and has even faster encoding and decoding speed.
In the future, we need to test our algorithm using more data sets.
This work can also be extended to compress the animation
sequence progressively to support a system that can provide for
partial data transmission at reduced resolution. In the future work,
we will address the progressive compression methods.
