3.1.3. Effect of temperature
Transesterification can occur at different temperatures, depending on the properties of oils. It could be at ambient temperature
[40]; or at a temperature close to the boiling temperature of methanol [13,43]. However, high reaction temperatures speed up the
reaction and shortens the reaction time [8,30]. Freedman et al.
[16] found that biodiesel yield depended on temperature in the
first 30 min reaction. It was, for example, 94%, 87% and 64% at
the temperatures of 60 C, 45 C and 32 C, respectively.
