The need to concentrate on the change in the nature of the
tourism destination is especially important considering globalisation
and advances in ICT. Dredge and Jamal (2013, p. 560) saw
destinations as mobile constructions that “are shaped and reshaped
by the movement of people, things and ideas; they are constructed
differently and they are shaped by the practices and performance of
people, things and ideas.” Pearce (2014, p. 150) stated that “more
empirical research is needed now to demonstrate the ways in
which and extent to which the performance of destinations can be
explained by particular concepts or elements.” However, the
absence of longitudinal data might be considered one of the reasons
why the dynamic dimension has not yet received much
attention in empirical studies.
