Primenes are primary aliphatic amines with highly
branched alkyl chains in which the amino nitrogen atom
is linked to a tertiary carbon. They consist of mixtures of
isomeric amines, Primene 81-R in the range of C12–14 and
Primene JM-T in the range of C16–22. Primene 81-R contains
t-alkylamines C12–14 at more than 80%, predominantly
C12 – at least 70%. Average molecular weight
amounts to 185 g. Primene JM-T contains at least 75% of
C18. Average molecular weight equals 269 g.
