This exception for PKT was in place even before I started here. All the staff ( front & line and managers) have the right to keep their days off in high season so they can go back to their families in low season. This is so they can go back to Myanamar or their hometowns in Thailand. That is also why we do not pay overtime in high season. Because they can take their time back in low season. Also in high season we are often short of staff in some departments so they are not allowed to take days off. In that case I do not take days off either as it will looks bad that only the manager takes off when we are busy.
For your information Khun Wat is already keeping his days off so he can go home for a while home after Sonkran. I obviously said it's ok knowing before that we do that in PKT.
In more than a year of employment I only had 2 longer holidays which were never in high season. I have never asked for days off or holidays in high season and the only mistake that I think I've done is that I took 2 holidays too close together for personal reasons. I have never had a sick day and I am on call 24hrs when I'm in Koh Tao. To explain how I've accumulated that many days please remember how many months we had on and off receptionist and I had to standby. I think Mr.Neils can agree with that as he had to standby for me in reception so I can go for lunch or dinner. How was I to take days off then? Even with low occupancy you have to have minimum 1 receptionist.
I understand that efficiency is decreased if you don't take days off but taking forced days is not motivating either. Days off for me are not to sleep but to travel and 4 days is just enough to go to Bangkok and back.
