The result of the design is a CPU which is easily comprehensible for students beginning in computer architecture. The
freely available source code and the possibility to use the GCC
toolchain offers a good starting point. The ZPU is very simple
in its design, but this is necessary to limit the complexity
for IC fabrication. For simulation, a pipelined version is also
available.
In addition to the Cordic co-processor, other accelerators
can be attached. This allows examining the speed-up for certain
applications.
