Our results show that shading of tomato plants affects both fruit yield and quality.
Total and market yields increased with shading levels up to 40% shading and then decreased with increasing shading levels (50%).
The greater fruit yield produced from shaded plants may be explained by the assumption that during summer, high temperature increases shedding of tomato flower and reduces fruitset.
It is also possible that the increase in tomato yield is due to larger number of branches and flowers per plant.
