Research has focused on the implications of the changes (Salamon, 1995; Smith &
Lipsky, 1993) and on the analysis of how nonprofit organizations are coping with these
changes (Golensky & DeRuiter, 1999; Zimmerman & Dart, 1998). Other research has
drawn our attention to adaptive strategies (Alexander, 2000; Durst & Newell, 2001) and to
the human resource management practices of nonprofit organizations (McMullen &
Brisbois, 2003).
