Thailand's household debt rose slightly to 80.1% of gross domestic product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2013 from 79.2% in the previous quarter. The government's excise tax refund scheme for the first-time car buyers which was lapsed at the end of 2012 has been mainly blamed for the increase in the debt.
