The most important thing to keep in mind when comparing superscalar and superpipelined
machines of equal degree is that they basically have the same performance. A superscalar
machine of degree three can have three instructions executing at the same time by issuing three
at the same time. The superpipelined machine can have three instructions executing at the same
time by having a cycle time 1/3 that of the superscalar machine, and issuing three instructions in
successive cycles.
