We regret to inform you of a fire at the AN Paints plant in Anytown earlier today. One AN employee has been injured and is currently being treated in hospital.
The fire started at about 8.30am on the ground floor of the Solventborne Decorative Plant. It spread to the switch room before it was brought under control by the Site Fire Team working hand in hand with the Community Fire Brigade. The fire did not spread to any other buildings on the site.
We are awaiting an update from the hospital on the condition of the injured employee. Family members have been been informed and are being supported at the Bigcity General Hospital by a senior AN manger. All other employees were safely evacuated and have been fully accounted for.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Anytown emergency services who attended the incident quickly and professionally.
This is the first fire incident since the construction of the plant in 1992 and at this stage it is unclear how the fire started. AN Paints is currently investigating the cause of the fire and will take the necessary action to prevent a recurrence.
We are currently working closely with the Anytown Environmental Agency to establish whether any contamination of the Big Bend River may have occurred due to run off water used to tackle the fire. We fully support any advisories issued by the Agency and will issue a joint press statement at 5 o’clock tomorrow.
Production will only be resumed once we believe it is totally safe to do so. We hope this will be possible in the next few days. A 24 hours hotline number 0207 334 107 has been set up for any customer or related enquiries.
