School Uniforms: To Wear Or Not To Wear?
While younger children may be agreeable to uniforms, teenagers are different. It goes without saying that adolescence is a time when young people make every effort to express their individuality in many different ways, especially through fashion. If given a choice, it is hard to imagine that most or even many teenagers would choose to wear school uniforms. If people are serious about finding solutions to the problem of school violence, maybe they should ask the real experts: the students themselves. Society has to really look in depth into what uniforms do, and must not use them as a solution for school problems. Making school uniforms mandatory would cause more problems and take away the freedom of choosing what to wear. If students were not able to wear what they wanted, the world would be bland and dull. People would lose every feature of diversity, individuality, and creativity. In a sense, students would be losing themselves. The idea of forcing every student to wear the exact same clothing as one another is absolutely ridiculous. Everyone was born different. No two people are alike. The schools think that they have good reasons behind the idea of having all students wear the same uniforms, such as the elimination of school violence and better student grades. The truth of the matter is that clothes express uniqueness and variety, and can often reveal a lot about a person, such as fashion preference and personality. Many teens like the punk look or the preppy look, for instance some even like the comfy look. But each look tells something different about the person, from music preference to their environment, and the type of people he/she choose to spend their time with. It would be horrific to take away this option because some students feel as if they already have limits, and are not free to make their own choices, whether it be at home or in their private life. R
