court sentences 71 teenager motorbikers
a court yesterday handed down two-month suspended jail sentences to 71 motorcyclists who were detained on vibhavadirangsit road in bangkok on Sunday
they were also fined from 1000 bath to 5000 bath depending on the charge against them
the bangkok north municipal court found the 71 riders aged over 18 guilty of violating traffic laws such as reckless driving,driving without a licence and riding without a helmet under section 43 of the land traffic act
the ruling came after police and soldiers intercepted a large group of motorcyclists, calling themselves "thurian non kan yao" or "long stem nonthaburi durian," at the bang khen intersection in chatuchak district on Sunday as they were traveling tonakhon nayok for a"charity trip "
the court also ordered them to report to probation officials four times during their one-year probation period
officers confiscated their motorcycles meanwhile, another 39 teenagers aged under 18 years of age, who were apprehended on the same day, were transferred to the central juvenile and family court
all of them were later released .
