This study initially confirmed the hypothesis that antibiotic
choice was related to the emergence of antibiotic resistance,
but this relationship was not confirmed by multivariate time between antibiotic exposure and the onset of subsequent
infection would have a significant correlation with the
emergence of nosocomial drug–resistant infections. Our
study supports the principles of antibiotic stewardship to
prevent pathogens from developing resistance to even more
antibiotics. In addition, we suggest that future research use the
time interval since the last day of previous antibiotic exposure
as an important reference while investigating the evolution of
subsequent antibiotic-resistant infections.
