The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare has sought cooperation from hundreds of thousands of private business operators nationwide to allow their employees to have an extra paid holiday on Dec 11.
Pannee Sriyudhsak, the department director-general, said more than 300,000 business operators nationwide have been asked to allow their staff to stop working, paving the way for them to join the "Bike for Dad'' event which will be held on that day.
Ms Pannee said Dec 11 is a Friday, while Dec 10 is a public holiday for Constitution Day. If corporate employees were given an additional day off on Friday, they would gain a four-day holiday including the weekend, which would help promote domestic tourism.
However, the department chief said employees must be paid for the Friday if employers agree to the extra holiday proposal, and the day should not be considered as a leave day for employees.
Ms Pannee said the department has been working with provincial governors, asking them to seek cooperation from business operators in their provinces.
