Dear Parents,
Greetings!
Slowly but surely, our children are settling down in their new classes, with their teachers and friends. We hope that as a result, parents are also settling down into a routine.
Like children, teachers also need a little time to get to know their students and also the parents. We appreciate your patience and strive to improve our communication each year.
I understand that there are still some concerns that parents and teachers have therefore I would like to clarify a few issues to ensure a common understanding.
Receiving students in the morning
Teachers will be on duty in 2 shifts
Shift 1 7.00 am – 7.30 am
Shift 2 7.30 am – 8.00 am (fewer teachers)
We would like the understanding of parents that we have to be ready for class by 8.00 am which means that students in K1 and K2 who come after 8 am, are late and will have to be received by teachers or personnel at the door who will see them up to their classes.
N2 children who are dropped off after 8 am will also be received inside the building by a representative TA of their class from 8 am – 8.30 am only. The TAs will not be stationed outside as they may be needed in the classroom off and on (as majority of children are already in class).
Parents who drop their children after 8.30 will have to report to the reception area and wait until either someone drops the children to class or a TA is called out to pick the child up.
We understand that traffic is an issue therefore we will try to accommodate you as best as we can, however we would encourage all our students to be on time as regularly as possible.
After School Academic and Activity club
Students who are not picked up by 4 pm for more than 3 times will be encouraged to join the Club. Parents will be contacted for consent. The payment for AA will be made termly at 500 baht an hour.
These classes are not academic based however the children will be with a friend or up to 3 friends so that they can engage in an educational game or activity after they have completed their homework. It is a constructive and fun way to spend their after school hours.
Request for EAS will be on approval by Principal only. Parents may request with a valid reason or teachers may contact parents should they feel the child needs the assistance. We will then find a suitable teacher to help the child.
Parents Reporting
We would like to send an earnest request to ALL NK parents to refrain from sending messages concerning other children to their parents without verification. We have had to deal with cases where parents messaged another parent out of concern that they saw their child outside with the teacher or walking to the nurse’s room. Unfortunately, this causes great anxiety for the parents whose child was seen. In their frantic state, parents then try to call the teacher, school or rush to school to find out that nothing was wrong in the first place. This has happened 3 times since school has started. We request that parents not abuse their rights to be around school by taking pictures or assuming situations that may not be accurate. Kindly wait for teachers to be the ones to contact parents who need to be contacted about their child.
A gentle reminder to all parents, kindly do NOT TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS of children moving from the building to the canteen from PC 1. This is against school regulations and can jeopardize the safety of our campus if this is put on social media.
Accidents
We usually find that the first couple of weeks in school, the number of accidents are high as the children are in their excited state and are still familiarizing themselves with the rules the teachers set. Please rest assured that our NK teachers are very vigilant and we take it very seriously if there is negligence shown by staff of the school. We also have to bear in mind that we have very young children and it is a part of their growing up to support some bumps and bruises. For the N1 and N2 children, bites, and scratches are common social adjustments. We will work together to teach the children to play safely.
Illness and Food Poisoning
Food poisoning is not rare in Bangkok and among our children. Food poisoning or symptoms alike may not necessarily be due to the food we prepare in school but from water, from dirt and from the fact that children touch surfaces outside that may not be germ free and put it in their mouth.
We try to have the children wash their hands before and after each meal, each toilet visit and after outdoor play. We also monitor our food very closely as Nursery 1 – Secondary students and staffs are eating the same food. We are extra cautious with the food served to the Nursery kindergarten children and will continue to monitor should there be cases of illness in school. Random cases of food poisoning like symptoms when weather changes are common. Please let us know so we can continue to monitor and investigate.
We hope you all have a great weekend!!
