Pump data logs should include all pump settings and setting changes and alarms. Information should be readily understood. If codes are used, interpretation of codes should be
readily available in a service or operator manual. Logs should be large enough to record each action for at least the last week of operation, and information from the log should not be
lost if the unit is turned off for an extended period, if the battery is depleted or changed, or if a new patient is selected.
Each data point should be stamped with the time and date.
It should be easy for hospital personnel to download the log to a PC in an easy-to-analyze format (e.g., the comma-separated values [CSV] file extension).
The unit should also track when the pump is being operated on battery power and when the battery is being charged (either as entries in the main log or as part of a separate battery
log).
