It's not all bad news for the Vamco-driven rains in recent days as water levels in some dams have jumped sharply.
All dams in Nakhon Ratchasima were filled following heavy rain over the past four days, especially the Lam Takong and Lam Phra Ploeng dams, which received 12 million cubic metres each.
Usable water at Lam Takong dam was 61 million cu/m, or 20% of its capacity, on Saturday, according to Chitchanok Somprasert, director of Irrigation Office 8 in the northeastern province.
The Lam Phra Ploeng Dam in Pak Thong Chai district also received 12 million cu/m, bringing its water level to 47 million cu/m, or 43% of its capacity.
At the Chao Phraya Dam in Sapphaya district of in Chai Nat, the water level rose by 50 centimetres to 15.65 metres from mean sea level.
"Water continues to flow into the dam and ease the shortage problem in the Thung Chao Phraya basin," said Ekasit Sadeethanporn, director of the Chao Phraya Dam project.
"But we still have to ask farmers to grow plants that need little water because usable water at the major dams like Bhumibhol and Sirikit dams remains low."
