The enzyme was purified from the cortex according to the
method of Janovitz-Klapp, Richard, and Nicolas (1989)
in three steps, i.e. extraction, fractional precipitation by
ammonium sulfate (164 g l1, 30% saturation) and
hydrophobic chromatography with phenyl-Sepharose
CL4B(Ph armacia, Uppsala, Sweden).
