A computed tomography head scan should be performed if there is a postictal neurological deficit persisting for more than a few hours.
Elective neuroimaging should be considered when there are clinical features of a neurological disorder such as micro or mac rocephaly, neurocutaneous abnormalities, pre-existing neurological deficit, or when there is recurrent complex FS, particularly where there is doubt whether the seizures are occurring at times of fever.
Magnetic resonance imaging has a higher sensitivity than CT for brain lesions that present with seizures.
