2.3. Positive effect of technological integration with supplier on
environmental collaboration with supplier
Technological integration includes tacit-knowledge sharing between a
buying and a supplying firm in strategic areas like product development,
process reengineering, and technical training. Two related aspects
determine the degree of technological integration: the extent to which
technical and tacit knowledge is shared, and the extent of interaction on
new product and process design.
Tacit-knowledge sharing is critical for enhancing technological
integration and environmental collaboration. Empirical
results from Vachon and Klassen indicate that technological
integration within a supply chain significantly and positively influences
environmental collaboration with primary suppliers.
Some researchers also support supply chain integration as an
antecedent to environmental collaboration.
