Discussion and summary
ADHD is a heterogeneous disorder; aetiological factors, clinical
presentation and response to treatment are likely to vary greatly
between individuals. For that reason, it can be very difficult for
clinicians to answer parents’ questions and advise them about
ADHD in their child. Despite huge developments in ADHD
research over the past 10 years or so, it is clear that there is still
a long way to go before we fully understand risk factors for the
disorder and the best treatment approaches. However, in this
review, we have briefly summarized some of the key research
findings that may be useful for clinicians when addressing
queries from parents.
