The levels of six chemical elements (mercury, arsenic, lead, cadmium, zinc and copper) were 13
examined in two species of Pacific salmon, genus Oncorhynchus, pink salmon (Oncorhynchus Q1412
gorbuscha), and chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) that were caught in the Kuril waters in July Q1513
2013. Concentrations of toxic elements (Hg, As, Pb, Cd) in both species were shown to be below 16
the maximum concentration limits of these trace elements for seafood. The concentrations of 17
these elementswere compared betweenwild salmons and hatchery-grown salmons of the Pacific 18
and Atlantic oceans.
