WHEN A PATIENT needs massive or rapid infusions
of intravenous (I.V.) .solutions or blood, the fluid should
be wiinned to prevent inducing hypothermia. Large
amounts of fluid used to irrigate a wound during
surgery should also be warmed. Several types of fluid
warmers are available to do this safely. All require special
I.V. tubing and are designed to warm the solutions
just before administration.
