This observation leads to the conclusion that, given the limited space of islands, as their
GDP increases so does the need for a better waste management, as well as the demand for
energy, problems that WTE can ease.
The plot of waste generation per capita with population density (Figure 37) did not show
a trend, in the case of the six islands examined in this study. Therefore, population
density is overshadowed by other factors, such as GDP per capita and government
interest in financing sustainable waste management.
