The August 12 of every year is Her Majesty the Queen Sirikit's birthday. This public holiday is celebrated nationwide as Mother's Day which has been first begun since the year 1976 by The National council on Social Welfare of Thailand. The Queen is considered as the mother of all Thai people. The flower used as symbol of this day is jasmine which is naturally white colour. Its nice smell lasts for long period and spread far away. Jasmin also sprouts all year round, so we can compare this with Mother’s true love given to her children and which is never ended. Different countries celebrate Mother’s Day on various days of the year because the day has a number of different origins.
One school of thought claims this day emerged from a custom of mother worship in ancient Greece, which kept a festival to Cybele, a great mother of Greeek gods. This festival was held around the Vernal Equinox .
