Advantages and Disadvantages of the Avoiding Conflict Style
The advantage of the avoiding style is that it may maintain relationships that would be hurt through conflict resolution. The disadvantage of this style is that conflicts do not get resolved, so avoiding is often not the best option. An overuse of this style leads to conflict within the individual. People tend to walk all over the consistent avoider. Some managers allow employees to break rules without confronting them. Avoiding problems usually does not make them go away; the problems usually get worse. And the longer you wait to confront others, the more difficult the confrontation usually is.
