Some of these properties are so crucial that most of current
gasification technologies generally utilize pre-processed
waste or refuse-derived fuel (RDF) rather than the waste as it
is. The pre-treatment is mainly oriented to adequately limit
the highly heterogeneous nature of the waste and reduce its
size as well as its ash and moisture content. Moreover, the composition
of waste (in particular its heating value) and that of its
ash (that in some cases could provide a catalytic action) could
suggest to investigate the possibility to utilize a co-gasification
process, i.e. to feed into the gasifier a mixture of different fuels
since the possible synergy between their products and intermediates
