Fig. 9 illustrates the density difference of the coexisting liquid
and gaseous phases for the system palm fatty acid distillates + CO2
as a function of system pressure. The results show that the conditions
of state (temperature and pressure) related to the points in the
diagram with density difference lower than 150 kg/m3 may be discard,
as the maximum allowable density difference = (L − G)
ofthe coexisting phases in countercurrent packed columns to avoid
14 flooding is approximately 150 kg/m3 [52]. The results presented
in Fig. 9 show that extraction experiments for the system palm
fatty acid distillates + CO2 at 333K cannot be carry out at pressures
higher than 20 MPa. The same analysis can be applied for
the isotherms 353 and 373K. This analysis may also be applied for
other equilibrium properties.
