2.1. Sorption of heavy metal ions by alga Spirogyra sp. under static
conditions
Algae samples of 8 g (wet) were prepared and dried as described.
Dry algae were placed in 200 cm3 of solution containing various salts
of heavy metal ions (Mn2+, Cu2+, Zn2+ and Cd2+) at the total
concentration lower than 1 mM (analytical grade from Merck). Each
sorption process was carried out for 40 minutes. To evaluate the
kinetics of the process, the concentration of each metal ions in the
solution was determined every 5 minutes. The initial concentration of
each metal ions was 2 ·10-5 M.
