Orica’s ammonium nitrate complex in
Bontang, East Kalimantan, Indonesia is now
in operation at nameplate capacity. The plant
was constructed by an Indonesian contracting
company which was also involved in the detailed
design of certain sections of the plant. Local
people were employed throughout the project.
The plant now has 160 Indonesian and three
expatriate employees. Where feasible, the
contracting of services for the site has been
made with companies local to Bontang. The
company has an active social responsibility
program that aids local communities with their
children’s education and development of their
communal facilities.
