Data analysis: Descriptive statistics were used
to describe the sample characteristics. Pearson
product-moment correlations were used to compare
the continuous variables, while point-biserial
correlation coefficient was used to compare the
discrete dichotomous variables and continuous
variables.30 In addition, regression analyses were
planned to determine the extent of the contribution of
health promoting behaviors to variance in maternal
and infant outcomes variables. However, since the
health promoting behaviors variable was significantly
related to only one of five dependent variables of
maternal outcomes, no regression analyses were
conducted
