Perceptual measures
There were no between-group or time effects for the perceptual measures of physical and mental
recovery. However, post-shuttle run rating of perceived exertion (P50.001, Z2¼0.48) increased over the tournament. The perception of leg soreness (P¼0.004, Z2¼0.30) and general fatigue (P¼0.007,Z2¼0.12) was also lower in the cold-water immersion than thermoneutral immersion group over the 4-day tournament, although both groups reported a similar leg soreness and fatigue after the finalmatch (see Figure 3). In addition, all six players in the cold-water immersion condition reported that the cold-water immersion treatment was beneficial for their recovery,
whereas only one of the seven players in the thermoneutral immersion group reported that thermoneutral immersion was beneficial.
