This study was carried out in the context of supervised practice in elementary school and involved, in
an active and direct way, a group of 12 children, 8 from the 1st year (aged 5 and 7 years) and 4 from the 3rd year
(ages vary between 7 and 8 years), and its head teacher from a school in an inland town in Portugal.
The procedures for data collection privileged participant observation, field notes and children’s written records
(text and drawings).
