A broader consequence of job satisfaction is that it contributes to Organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), or the willingness to work for the good of the organization even without the promise of a specific reward. Five important components of organizational citizenship behavior are conscientiousness, altruism, civic virtue, courtesy, and sportsmanship. A good Organizational citizen would engage in such behaviors as assisting a person with a computer problem outside his or her team or department, or picking up a broken bottle on the company lawn. People who are good organizational citizens are likely to achieve some of the consequences of job satisfaction, including higher customer loyalty, higher productivity, and better safety performance.
