To avoid damage to our exchange buildings
and the facilities inside from tsunamis, several
preventive measures have been taken. Those
that collapsed or were washed away have been
relocated to a higher elevation beyond the reach
of the tsunami. In partially flooded areas, stations were modified by, for example, closing
openings on the first floor (i.e., windows and
doors), moving the building entrance to the second floor, and installing a water gate to make
the ground and basement floors more waterresistant; for facilities where these measures cannot be taken, telecommunications equipment
was moved to higher-level floors in order to
avoid flooding.
