Ground data were acquired over 43 days from June 7 until July 19,
2012.
This extended period meant that crop growth ranged from emergence (very low biomass) to seed
ranged
emergence
development/reproduction (peak biomass accumulation). Throughout the 2012 experiment, the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)flew both their Passive/
Active L-Band (PALS) instrument as well as the active L-band UAVSAR.
A detailed description of the experiment is provided byMcNairn et al.
(2015). RADARSAT-2 C-band data were also acquired throughout
SMAPVEX12.
