I am extremely pleased to announce that Enerflex’s Global HSE Focus Group has established common guidelines for the Company’s on-going HSE statistical reporting. Effective immediately, the Company has implemented common key performance indicators (“KPIs”), both leading and lagging, to measure progress towards specific health and safety targets within each region. Enerflex’s HSE KPIs demonstrate the Company’s efforts in reducing incidents and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
Leading Indicators Leading indicators are predictive of future performance results and are considered a proactive measurement. They are used to pin-point risk areas and take preventative actions. Enerflex’s leading indicators are:
1. Behavioral Based Performance (“BBP”) Employees’ behaviors are a key component to maintaining a safe workplace. BBP programs increase awareness of safety expectations, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and lead to the achievement of desired safety goals and targets. Enerflex’s regions have implemented programs including the Aware Cards, Stop Work Authority, What If, and Be Safe, all of which are recognized under this KPI.
2. Worksite Inspections Worksite inspections are an integral function within Enerflex. Inspections detect substandard conditions and help direct action to ensure the safety of all Enerflex employees, visitors, and contractors.
3. Hazard Identification, Assessment, and Control (“HIAC”) HIAC is a technique of systematically analyzing a worksite from the perspective of HSE. Enerflex takes measures to eliminate or control identified hazards before work commences. Under this KPI, Enerflex has implemented programs including Job Hazard Analysis, Pre-Job Hazard Assessment, and Spot the Hazard.
4. On-Going Communications Safety-related communications is an effective method of preventing injuries and improving a safety culture. Each region will communicate at least four HSE related topics per month, addressing hazards and “at risk” behaviors identified through BBP and HIAC programs.
Lagging Indicators Lagging indicators are KPIs that represent situations that have already happened, including an injury or motor vehicle incident. They provide an overview of the Company’s HSE performance, which has improved year-over-year as demonstrated by our target completions. The EMT collaborate annually establishing strategic lagging indicators – targets set based on the current state of the Company and on future HSE goals. Lagging indicators include:
