The design is based off the 95 Kona Huma Huma 1-speed (modified) I've been riding for work for the past 3 years, and partially inspired by Rebour drawings of French "porteur" bikes. The frame was designed around the s-a 3-speed hub, Conti top touring 2000 700x32c tires, WTB rollercam brakes up front, and the S&S coupling. Its got everything I loved about the Kona - the relaxed feel yet quick handling, the bombproof construction - plus some extra kick and a whole lot more versatility for load-carrying, hill-climbing, speed and travel. Looks like a mountain bike, rides like a cross bike, ticks like a Raleigh 3-speed, and is very rideable for 8-10 hour days of load-carrying.
